I am a graduate of East Texas State University. I majored in Elementary Education and specialized in English. My teaching career began in 1994, I was hired as a third grade teacher for Commerce Elementary. I taught third grade three years, took a couple of years off, returned and taught second grade for two years. Then, I transitioned to enrichment for 10 years. Under that umbrella, I have taught art, creative problem solving, reading, math, english as a second language, destination imagination, literacy and several other academic venues. In 2001 I had the humble honor of being named Region 10 teacher of the year. Selections were made based on essays and interviews. At that time I was teaching ESL and Gifted and Talented children. |
I was born and reared in Commerce. I married my high school sweetheart, Dave Lewis. At the time, he was a Marine. We lived in Florida and California. We returned to Commerce to be near my family. We have two adult children, Tarah and David. Tarah is married to Tony Kawal and reside in Hawaii. They own and operate a Mexican Eatery. Our son David has blessed us with two grandchildren. He is both a cattleman and businessman. I love to read, ride bikes, travel and write. |
